Devlog 10 - August 01 - August 07


Overview: This week marked the final phase of our development process for "Ditch the Dollhouse." Our focus was on polishing the game, resolving any remaining issues, and enhancing visual and audio effects to deliver a cohesive and engaging player experience.

Progress:

  1. Lighting & Shading:
    • Implemented lighting and shading across all levels to create a more immersive atmosphere.
    • Adjusted lighting in multiple tutorial levels to enhance visibility and aesthetics.
    • Fixed shadow issues under the player to ensure consistent visual quality.
  2. Gameplay Enhancements:
    • Climbing Fix: Applied a fix to improve the climbing mechanics, ensuring smoother player interactions with climbable surfaces.
    • Transition Improvements: Updated the transition video to stretch and fill the player view, enhancing visual continuity during level changes.
    • Player Rotation and Movement: Ensured the player rotates correctly while climbing and stops moving after entering an endpoint.
    • Power Wire: Added the power wire feature to visually link triggers (like switches and buttons) to the objects they control, improving puzzle clarity.
  3. Sound & Music:
    • Integrated new sound effects for various actions, including aiming, landing, jumping, and limb popping.
    • Added background music to VAL Level 2 and transition music via FMOD for a more dynamic audio experience.
    • Updated and compressed audio files to ensure optimal performance and quality.
    • Fixed sound triggers and pressure plate sounds to provide better audio feedback to player actions.
  4. UI & Menus:
    • Added an end screen and updated the end game UI to provide closure after completing the game.
    • Modified the main menu to include a pause option, and added sound effects for better navigation feedback.
    • Updated the question mark icon and various UI elements for better readability and interaction.
  5. Bug Fixes & Tweaks:
    • Resolved numerous bugs, including issues with elevator door animations, level overrides, and collider settings.
    • Fixed build errors and ensured all prefabs and meta files were correctly updated.
    • Adjusted camera settings and transitions for a smoother visual experience.
    • Tweaked gameplay variables for consistency, such as multiplying by delta time.
  6. Art & Models:
    • Finalized and implemented various models and prefabs, including the bed, couch, loveseat, and vanity.
    • Implemented lighting prefabs - firefly jar, lightbulb, and wall-mounted candle.
    • Added and updated art assets across levels, enhancing the visual appeal and coherence of the game world.

And thus ends our final devlog! The team is incredibly proud of all the progress made and we are incredibly excited to present the finished product. We had an absolute blast building this game from the ground up, and we hope you have as much fun playing it as we did making it!
