Devlog 8 - July 18 - July 24


Overview: 

This week, our team focused on refining and expanding the game in preparation for the beta build. Key tasks included addressing bugs from previous builds, incorporating new assets and sound effects, and implementing various gameplay improvements based on feedback.

Progress:

  1. Bug Fixes and Improvements:

    • Fixed bugs related to player prompts not updating with player position and missing reference exceptions on scene reload.
    • Improved logic for various gameplay prompts and interactions, ensuring smoother and more intuitive player experiences.
    • Adjusted the player object and related prefabs to fix issues with the UI moving during roll states and incorrect limb interactions.
    • Tweaked some issues with various colliders not aligning properly with meshes.
  2. New Features and Enhancements:

    • Added multiple decorative prefabs such as windows, couches, loveseats, and vanities to enhance the visual appeal of the levels.
    • Introduced new music tracks for various levels and the start menu, along with adjustments to music volumes.
    • Implemented footstep sounds and additional sound effects for UI interactions to enrich the auditory experience.
  3. Gameplay Adjustments:

    • Modified pressure plate mechanics to follow platforms and move correctly along different axes.
    • Updated climbing mechanics to require two arms, improving challenge and gameplay consistency.
    • Refined limb interaction systems to prevent multiple objects from being picked up simultaneously and ensure proper recall radius display.
  4. Level Design and Updates:

    • Completed and updated several levels, including adding windows and decorative elements to tutorial levels.
    • Fixed buttons and switches in multiple levels to ensure they function correctly.
    • Made significant updates to the moving platform model, including adding art and animations.
  5. UI and Menu Enhancements:

    • Updated the start menu and in-game UI buttons for better usability and aesthetics.
    • Added a controls option in the pause menu for easier access to game controls and settings.

Playtesting: A comprehensive playtesting report has been compiled and uploaded to our itch.io page, providing valuable insights and feedback for further improvements.

Next Steps: In the coming week, we plan to focus on polishing the game further, addressing any remaining bugs, and incorporating feedback from the playtesting report to ensure a seamless and engaging player experience for our final release
