Ditch the Dollhouse » Devlog
Hello! Welcome to another iteration of the devlogs for 'Ditch the Dollhouse.' We're excited to share with you what we've accomplished this week!
Changes Made This Week:
Gameplay Mechanics:
Climbing Mechanics:
- Prototype Implementation: We introduced the first prototype of climbable objects, allowing the player to interact with and climb specific objects within the game world.
- Player Rotation and Auto-Detach: The player now rotates to face the climbable object and automatically detaches after climbing above it. Note that the detach feature is not yet 100% reliable and will need further refinement.
- State Machine Integration: We refactored the climbable object system to utilize the player state machine, creating an associated climbing state to manage this new mechanic.
Moving Platform:
- Script Modifications: Modified the MovingPlatform script to address bugs with the roll state while ensuring it correctly moves non-player objects.
- Temporary Modifications: Created a temporary modified version of the MovingPlatform script, which works with the roll state but introduces some bugs with cube interactions that need to be fixed.
Limb Restore Box:
- Prototype Script: Implemented a prototype version of the limb restore box script, along with temporary prefabs for testing both a climbable object and a limb restore box.
Camera and Controls:
Camera Enhancements:
- Tweaked Settings: Adjusted camera settings to improve the overall player experience.
- Control Options: Added new options for camera controls to provide players with greater customization and comfort.
Aiming Mechanics:
- Bullet Time Speed: Added bullet time speed configuration to the aiming mechanic, enhancing the precision and feel of aiming in the game.
- Cancel Aim Adjustment: Moved the cancel aim function to the Gamepad west button for better accessibility.
Audio and Visuals:
Sound Fixes:
- Pop Sound Issue: Fixed the issue where the pop sound would play when a limb is highlighted, ensuring a more polished audio experience.
Splash Screen and Build Settings:
- Updates: Updated the splash screen and build settings to reflect the latest game developments and improvements.
Player Prefab and Control Scheme:
Player Object:
- Changes: Made several changes to the player object, including adding a crawl state and moving colliders out of the NewInputSystem object into the PlayerObj.
Control Scheme:
- Update: Updated the control scheme to improve player interactions and gameplay flow.
Next Tasks:
- Refine Climbing Mechanic: Continue refining the climbing mechanic to ensure reliable detachment and smooth player interactions.
- Fix Moving Platform Bugs: Address the bugs introduced in the temporary moving platform script modifications, especially those affecting cube interactions.
- Enhance Limb Restore Box: Improve the limb restore box script and finalize its implementation.
- Polish Camera and Controls: Further tweak camera settings and control options for optimal player experience.
- Continue Audio Improvements: Keep enhancing the game's audio, addressing any remaining issues and adding new sounds as needed.
We are thrilled with the progress made this week and are eager to continue improving and expanding "Ditch the Dollhouse". Stay tuned for more updates, and as always, thank you for following our journey!
